How to Train Your Dog to Stand on Your Back

How to Train Your Dog to Stand on Your Back

Jump Starter

We saw men with one of these trick with his dog, and we thought it was so sweet that we had to share with you how to train your dog this trick works so well. Of course, many of you probably wonder why in the world is the dog jumps up and stood on the back. This trick is not for everyone or every dog. Before trying any trick to try to be like this, where your body carries the weight of your dog, consider yourphysical ability and size and weight of your dog. Also think about your dogs health in general, this trick requires a lot of work on his part, I do not like.

Getting Started

You want this trick to teach your dog in stages, just because you have to build his confidence in his ability to balance when landing. To begin, find a large flat, stable surface like a coffee table and put it on the grass in the yard. You want to crouchLevel of the table, so you can at the dog when he is on the table. This builds his social value, the trick. Use your preferred treatment (and instrument clicker if you have it) to attract your dog on the table. At first, it will probably only the front legs on the table and jump back. It will do so because there is sure to be able, on the surface of all four-legged balance. To build confidence in your dog always on the table, with the clickerinstant his paws touch the table. This will tell him that you are approving of his performance. Over and over insist that the dog keep trying until he gets all four paws on the table. The instant he gets all four of his paws touch the table, hit the clicker to signal to him that he has achieved the desired skill you wanted him to do.

Advancing to Completion

Once your dogs has perfected the idea of jumping up to and standing on the table, get him to stay still while standing on the table for a few seconds. When he has done so click and reward him for the effort. Once your dog is comfortable with the idea of jumping on the table; try moving on to jumping onto a smaller object. We would suggest something like an upside down hand carried shopping basket. This object is much smaller than the table and less stable of a place to land.

Continue to coach the dog to jump on the basket as you had done with the table. He will again start with the two paws on the basket first then eventually get the courage to put all four paws on the basket. Once he has gotten the idea of jumping on the basket and staying there for a few seconds, it is time to try the real platform for this trick.

Dogs are large, heavy creatures with muddy paws. We advise the use of a padded vest that you should wear while attempting this trick. You could search online auctions for old diving vests. They are stronger for the dogs to land on and provide decent padding from their nails and your back. Start this part of the trick by you getting on all fours (hands and knees) and coaxing the dog to jump onto your back like he has done with the basket. Once he has mastered that concept, try doing the trick while standing up. You will of course have to be slightly bent down and crouched a little bit in order for the dog to be able to land on you.

This is a dangerous trick which is only recommended for stronger dogs and handlers that have already mastered a series of less complicated and risky tricks. Also keep in mind that at no time so anyone ever hit a dog as a method of training or punishment. Abused dogs will eventually attack and its not their fault.
